Pop Up Camper Mods and Hacks that will make your trip easier!
Let’s be honest…popup campers are already a game-changer for family camping trips. You get that sweet combo of “real camping” without totally roughing it. (This is why we bought ours! You can read about why we bought it here.)
But what if I told you there are some genius popup camper mods and hacks that can make things even better? Whether you’re trying to save space, get organized, or add a little comfort and style, these ideas are affordable, beginner-friendly, and 100% frugal camper approved!
LED Light Strips

Stick-on LED light strips give you warm, cozy lighting and use way less power. We decided to use them inside because the lighting in our popup isn’t the best!
There are several ways you can use them, such as put them under cabinets or around the ceiling edges for instant light. Battery-operated versions work great if you want to skip the wiring, but ours just plug into an outlet.

Grab these from Amazon- they’re the ones we used! We got the waterproof ones for inside and out, just in case, and bonus tip…the remote works either one!

Extra Storage
Any seasoned camper will tell you that you need SO MUCH storage! The more, the better. This was one of the first things we changed in our popup camper remodel.
I added shelves inside the cabinets. We changed up the sofa to have open storage underneath (see that here). We also added a 3 drawer storage bin that I keep on the countertop when we are camping.

I even disconnected the fridge because it wasn’t that cold anyway and made it into storage. (the photo below was taken before we took out the kitchen)

Command Hooks Everywhere
Yes, you read that right. We put command hooks all over the place. I hang towels, jackets, keys…whatever!

Reflectix- Insulation
Line your popup windows with Reflectix insulation (that silvery bubble wrap stuff). It keeps your camper cool in the summer and warm in the fall, plus it blocks out the light.
We love this stuff! Another reason we love it so much is…sometimes when it rains, the seams can get wet, which makes my sheets get wet (and I hate that), but the reflectix keeps the water away from my stuff!
To use it, cut pieces to size (you can see how we did ours here) and store them flat when not in use; super frugal and super effective.

Electric Burners for Cooking
We decided to free up our counter space and get rid of the inside kitchen in our popup camper. So, if you need a cooking hack, you can grab this electric burner like we did.
We do most of our cooking outside and you can check out this post about everything we use right here.

Popup campers are the perfect mix of traditional tent camping and convenience and a few smart upgrades make them feel downright luxurious (without the luxury price tag). Try one or two of these popup camper mods on your next trip and watch how much smoother and more fun camping becomes.
