Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket Review | Why We Love Ours!

Let’s just face it, if we didn’t love this Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket…we wouldn’t have one and we certainly wouldn’t be reviewing it! SO in this post, we are going to tell you why we love the puffy blanket in our Rumpl blanket review!

The Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket is a casual camping blanket, but it’s heavier and warmer than the Kelty Bestie Blanket that we also keep in our pop-up camper. We like it because it’s so versatile and has more design features than the bestie! It’s the perfect weatherproof, all-season blanket that you can literally take anywhere.

The Original Puffy Blanket comes in three types…the Original, the Nano and the Down. We have the original and it works great for us! We prefer the Original over the Down or Nano due to the price. The Original is $99, the Nano is $179 and the Down is $249.

Is it Comfortable?

We think so! As far as the campsite is concerned, this blanket is very comfortable. We actually prefer our Bestie Blanket more for comfort but it’s not as warm as our Rumpl.

When using it as an outdoor blanket, it’s very cozy. It’s also super easy to throw in the car! This blanket would be a great thing to have in the car during the winter months in case you get stranded or you break down.

Since the Snowpocalypse in Georgia of 2014, I know its a good idea to have something warm in the car for emergencies! And since this is how the company was founded, what better way to use the blanket!

Is it Warm?

Of course it’s warm…it feels like a sleeping bag except it doesn’t zip, its a blanket. The founders of the Rumpl brand actually came up with the design when they were left stranded in their van at sub-zero temps. They desided to make a “sleeping bag blanket” and here they are.

These blankets aren’t actually temperature rated but Rumpl says they will do just fine at temps above 45° F. We have found this to be true.

We generally don’t camp when it’s super cold and it doesn’t get to bad here in Georgia, but our Rumpl blanket has been great for our trips.

This blanket is also great for the couch! Its very cozy to lay under by the fire…we tested it, lol.

The Original Puffy Blanket is filled with 100% recycled 3D hollow fiber siliconized synthetic insulation (240 grams). The Down version has traceable and sustainably-sourced hydrophobic duck down 600 fill power (80/20) (220 grams).

They now have a Nano version that is filled with nanometer high-elastic cloth with soft nap (100% recycled synthetic down) (200 grams). Its designed to mimic down to give you a down like feel but at a cheaper price. The Nano Version is priced at $179.

Does it Resist Water?

Rumpl uses a 90/10 durable water repellent on their blankets. (They are water repellant, not waterproof!) This is a finish that provides extra protection from all the elements so it’s weather and stain-resistant.

This blanket is machine washable! Its recommended to wash it in a front loading washing machine and to use a detergent-free soap while drying it on low or no heat but we prefer to just hang ours to dry.

Will it Last?

The Rumpl Puffy Blanket is made with a very tough rip-stop fabric from 100% recycled materials. You would think that it wouldn’t feel soft, but it actually does.

They offer a one year warranty from any manufacturing defects on materials or craftsmanship. They also offer a 100 night trial, meaning you can use it for 100 nights and if you aren’t a happy camper, send them a note to [email protected] and they will handle it.

Is it Easy to Use?

Absolutely! It folds nicely into its very own stuff sack and comes right out just as easily. We love the clip on the front of the blanket that helps keep it together while you are hands-free. (It doesn’t clip as close as we would like but it works)

We also love how easy it is to wash. They recommend using a front loading washing machine and detergent free soap but it’s great to be able to wash it when you need to. Note: the more you wash it, the more it will age and wear off the water resistant coating!

Final Thoughts

The Rumpl Puffy blanket is lightweight, compact, and comfortable. The ripstop material with the water-resistant treatment is also a major plus! We love how comfortable it is and we also love all the clips and loops to help hold it in place while you are wearing it or so you can stake it down. We also enjoy the versitility of being able to take it anywhere. You just stuff it in the stuff sack and go. We highly recommend this blanket!
