Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good camping breakfast? Breakfast is our favorite meal, so when we camp, we tend to go all out. We love a breakfast sandwich, but why settle for just any old regular breakfast camping sandwich when you can have a cinnamon roll sandwich?
We like to make sure that all of our camping recipes are easy to make. When we camp, we are either in a tent, but most of the time, we are in our popup camper, so making sure meals are easy makes the experience better.
Since we remodeled the popup, we don’t have a refrigerator, so everything we take with us to cook needs to be easily stored in a cooler.
When I take food in the cooler, I like to keep things in ziplock bags so it doesn’t get soggy or water can’t get into the containers. It’s just what I like to do. For this recipe, you are going to want to keep the cinnamon rolls in a ziplock.
I also keep our sliced cheese in a ziplock when water gets into your cheese it’s gross!
To make cinnamon roll sandwiches, we use a griddle. We always take our griddle camping…it’s a staple. We use a propane adapter so that we can cook with a larger tank than those little green camping bottles.
The first thing you will do when making these sandwiches is cook your sausage. My husband likes to use gloves when he makes his patties…it just makes it so you don’t get your hands messy. Then he squishes them down onto the griddle with our spatula.
I like to take a knife and cut the sausage roll into slices. But you can do whatever is easier for you.
You will want to cook your sausage all the way through and then set them aside. Next, we cook our cinnamon rolls.
We cook them just like the sausage on the griddle. You can make them by themselves, and they make the easiest camping pancakes!
To cook your cinnamon rolls, you will want to squish them flat and brown them on both sides.
This will ensure that your cinnamon roll batter cooks all the way through (plus, this is the trick to making them pancakes).
When our little cinnamon roll pancakes are done, we put the frosting on. You don’t have to if you are using them for the biscuits of your sandwich but we like a little sweet in our sandwich. As I mentioned earlier, we go all out while we are camping!
The next step is to cook your eggs. We go ahead and scramble them. Once they are cooked, we put cheese in them so it can melt. You can absolutely add the cheese when you are assembling your sandwich, but that’s up to you.
When you get everything cooked, it’s time to assemble your camping breakfast sandwich and enjoy!
